The author clearly loves dogs (and at least some of the characters do so as well). But the book is not that suspenseful, not that funny, and not that well-written. The main character, at least in the beginning, is spoilt and immature (I know she's supposed to be that way, but for me it was very annoying to read). And some of the things in the book i find hard to believe: e.g. someone will give a total stranger w/ no dog-walking experience and no references keys to his (at least somewhat fancy) house to stay for a week; someone will hire a person with no experience or interest in hair for working in a hair salon (don't hair dressers need to be licensed?); etc.

Taking the Lead LA Lights Book 2 edition by Di Jones Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I've spent the last 2 days reading this book- I haven't been able to put it down. Hilarious antics from the great dog characters and humans alike. After Tessa the lead character, I loved Twinkletoes,Clemmie,Indie and Charlie.
I particularly enjoyed the clever use of the chapter titles-I was a bit slow at first but once I had a lightbulb moment and realized what these titles meant, it added another dimension for me. A clever twist from the author.
I'd recommend this book to dog lovers and anyone who enjoys romantic comedy
If you like dogs, interesting and likeable characters and a good story with some unexpected twists, you'll like this book. Looking forward reading the next book.
Love it, great fun.
Great characters and can't wait for the next book to see how Tessa's group of friends develop along with her. Love the description of all the dogs especially Twinkletoes and drinking tea from a tea cup..... what a hoot.
A pleasure to follow and read your new books after Transplanting Holly Oakwood. Well done Di - keep it up.
Humorous adult fare. Starts out with extreme naivete and self centeredness of protagonist which is a little off-putting but the entrance of dogs soon settles story into hilarious quips and conclusions. Definitely a fun read.
You can't help falling for the characters, especially the dogs. I laughed out loud a few times, causing some strange looks from the hubby. Really enjoyed the first two books and can't wait to start on the next. If you enjoy chick lit that's witty and clean, then you have to read these.
The dogs are the true heroes in this book, followed by our valiant heroine, Tessa, who strives against the odds to reach her acting goals (and get her yummy man). If you've had a tough working week, if need some laughs, and if you love dogs, this will be the perfect read. Twinkletoes the Great Dane is the best character I've read in many a month - I won't reveal her delightful idiosyncracies - and Tessa's session as the human personification of orange juice in an ad shoot was the kind of painful that becomes hilarious. I'm not a big fan of Los Angeles and the whole film and TV industry, but I DO love dogs and a good laugh. I'd describe this as chicklit meets "must love dogs", and it's a combo I could happily consume more of.
Taking the Lead - #2 - Funny and intriguing. A well written story full of humor, a lovable group of characters, some scary, and a twisting plot. I've read these books out of series and they are all good books. While each book is complete, the characters' stories continue through thick and thin, and suspense and intrigue. There's a preview of the book, which I appreciate knowing what the book is about before I read it.

The Audition - #1 - A quick, fast read. Not a fan of Hollywood, but I found The Audition to be funny and engaging and well written.

Acting up - #3 - Another fun, intriguing tale of love and dogs. A well written story with our favorite characters, lots more dogs and a couple of cats. The constantly developing plot holds the reader's attention until the book is finished. I've read all six books of this series and enjoyed all of them.

Transplanting Holly Oakwood - #4 - A quick, funny novel filled with intrigue and mishaps that keep you laughing throughout and too soon the story ends. This author always tells a good story, even the sad short stories from her Grief novel. I personally didn't care for the few sex scenes, not seen in the other books I've read. There's infrequent cursing in anger. This book must be read before Barking Bad, (#5).

Barking Bad - #5 - A well written suspense that starts a touch slow but slams into gear and doesn't slow down until the end. Having read The Audition and nothing else from this series, I was surprised at the intrigue and intensity of this book. The plot is well thought out, with unexpected turns, and some horror, along with our favorite characters. The romance between Tessa and Ryan goes where I think is the right direction. I have read several of this author's books and she's always delivered a good read. For those who care, there's no sex and infrequent cursing.
The author clearly loves dogs (and at least some of the characters do so as well). But the book is not that suspenseful, not that funny, and not that well-written.
